Today we left our little hotel in Bangkok, took an Uber to the airport, flew down to the island Koh Samui, and then took a ferry to Koh Phanagn. Talk about utilizing all forms of travel!
It was a helluva day. It was raining, downpour raining, in Bangkok when we were Ubering to the airport. We ended up leaving earlier than necessary due to the fact of the rain and not knowing what traffic would look like. Once we got through security, we were golden; we had about two and a half hours to kill so we sat in the lounge with free wifi and then went and had a drink.
When the time came, we got to our gate, and then boarded the bus that took us to our plane. It’s the craziest thing, they have maybe a handful of actual jet ways like we have in the U.S. After that, you walk up stairs to get into the planes.
Our trip to Koh Samui was as quick as flying from Detroit to Chicago; as soon as you reach the 30,000 ft in the air, you start descending. I was expecting to maybe get drink service, but no. We literally got a full lunch served to us. I’ve never seen airplane service go so fast! The flight attendants zoomed up and down the aisle, passing out chicken and rice platters, with fruit and water. Then, they came back with juice and coffee. By the time the pilot said we were about to land, they were already buckled in their seats.
When we landed on the island, the airport was the absolute coolest. When you get off the plane by taking the stairs down, little trollies pick you up and drive you to the terminal which was completely open air. What needed to be covered, like the luggage belts, was covered by huts.
We quickly picked up our bags, flagged a cab, and he zoomed us to the pier to catch our ferry, which ended up being 45 minutes late. The ferry was crazy; it was full of backpackers making their way to Phanagn for the Full Moon Party. Specifically by us, there were four girls just CRUSHING cigarettes by us. Our ferry took thirty minutes and I swear, between the four of them, they smoked more than a pack.
Once we got to land, we made our way to our hotel. It was pitch black, couldn’t see a thing, had to walk down a steep hill to get to the bar where we checked in, then the manager walked us up to our room, which was up very steep stairs. Our room was LITERALLY built off the side of a cliff. The accommodations weren’t exactly what I was expecting, a little rougher than a Holiday Inn, but easily adjustable to. I honestly just needed food at this point.
We were told the 9 PM taxi that they had scheduled was the only one available to go to the beach for the party. This was at 8:10 PM. So we showered, threw ourselves together, bought beers to go at the bar (yes, I’m serious, it was the hotel manager’s idea) and we hopped in the back of the tuk-tuk truck and off he zoomed.
This party was unlike anything I had ever seen. It was the chaos of Vegas and music festivals combined with a melting pot of nationalities, drinking out of sand buckets, lasers, fire, people twirling fire, people jumping fire, DJs.. you name it, we probably saw it. Conn set us up in a restaurant because I obviously needed food and we people watched. It was insane and incredible to experience…But I probably will never do it again haha!
We ended up hanging out until 2 AM, also the latest we’ve stayed up thus far. Needless to say, I said good morning to mom Krame back in MI and I passed out with visions of beach and sun in my head. See day four next 😃
